The human body’s current sensing is used by capacitive touch screen technology. The capacitive touch screen is made of four layers of composite glass. ITO is applied to the inner surface of the glass screen and the interlayer. The outermost layer is a thin layer of quartz glass that serves as a protective layer. The working surface is an intermediate ITO coating. The inner layer of ITO, in addition to four electrodes, serves as a shielding layer to ensure a safe working environment. Due to the electric field of the human body, when a finger touches the metal layer, a coupling capacitance is formed between the user and the surface of the touch screen. For high-frequency currents, the capacitor is the direct conductor, so the finger draws very little current from the point of contact. This current flows out of the electrodes located on the four corners of the touch screen, and the current flowing through these four electrodes is proportional to the distance between the finger and the four corners. The position of the touch point is determined by precisely calculating the ratio of the four currents.
How does a capacitive touch screen work?
Capacitive touch screens take input from the electrical properties of the human body. When a finger is touched, a small electrical charge is drawn to the point of contact, allowing the display to detect where the input has been received.
The capacitive touch screen is made of an insulator-like glass coating covered with a see-through conductor like indium tin oxide (ITO). The ITO is secured to glass plates, which compress liquid crystals in the touch screen. When a user activates the screen, an electronic charge is generated, which causes the liquid crystal to rotate.
